Saturday March 17 saw the launch of the Every Life Matters Support After Suicide Peer Support Group in Castlemaine. With the event taking place at the local park in the centre of the community, the turnout was fabulous. There was facepainting, cultural dances and songs, free yoga and an open mic. Evident on the day was the community’s willingness to share stories of lost loved ones, however, also evident was the hope and support that comes from peer support and being among community. The sharing of stories on the day as well as talks about mental health lead many community members to feel comfortable to share their stories too, thereby starting the conversation about mental health and help seeking within the Castlemaine community.
